RWE, a leading player in energy, has awarded the Lutze Group a significant contract to line 84 train wagons transporting topsoil needed for relandscaping from its Hambach lignite mine to the soil storage area. This collaboration marks a pivotal step towards addressing caking, corrosion, and wear issues on their railway wagons, thereby further streamlining their operations, and increasing RWE’s transport capacity.
Caking, corrosion, and wear challenges have long plagued the efficiency of RWE’s soil transportation. Frequently needed cleaning and maintenance results in additional costs and time constraints for RWE. The accumulation of material residue not only hampers operational flow but also compromises safety due to increased wagon weight and extended braking distances.
After rigorous testing of various solutions, RWE identified Lutze Group as the partner of choice, opting for two distinct lining solutions. A total of thirty-one wagons will be equipped with ceramic epoxy spray coating, and fifty-three wagons will benefit from Lutze’s PE-SIL lining solution. Both solutions are known for their durability and adhesion-reducing properties.
The ceramic spray coatingas well as PE-SIL solution promise significant benefits to RWE, including reduced cleaning requirements, optimized tipping processes, and prolonged wagon lifespan. The sprayable ceramic/epoxy coating, with its thin-layer application, ensures a smooth surface with minimal friction, while the PE-SIL lining (UHMW-PE plates installed via stud welded bolts) additionally boasts interchangeability.
Despite their little differences, both solutions are geared towards enhancing operational efficiency by minimizing maintenance costs, downtime, and operational disruptions.
The implementation timeline for these solutions is already underway, with a ceramic spray coatinginstallation scheduled for completion by week 28 and forty-eight PE-SIL linings are expected to be finalized by week 48. Five more PE-SIL linings will follow by the end of the year.
This strategic partnership underscores Lutze Group's commitment to innovation and sustainability, aligning seamlessly with the needs of RWE's logistics experts for a more efficient and eco-conscious transportation process.
